Dr Antje Scharenberg

Antje is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Institute of Media and Communication Management at the University of St. Gallen since September 2020. She completed her PhD in the Department of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her thesis – titled Transeuropa: Agency Beyond Borders in Alter-European Activist Networks – was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC, UK) and is based on a 4-year long ethnographic research project with alter-European movements. One of the central questions driving her thesis and her wider research interests is how we can enact agency in times of border-crossing challenges arising, for instance, in the context of migration, climate change or digital capitalism. Building on her research expertise on activism and social movements, transnationalism, globalization, alternative media, new municipalism, feminism, ethnography and engaged methodologies, Antje’s particular focus in the Human Error Project is on the meaning of human agency especially questions regarding data justice, data feminism and transnational alliances of civil society.
